I perceive the world as nature—with its crushing force and fragility. I see myself, too, in this context, for we are inextricably linked to this complex and holistic system, where strength and vulnerability, creation and destruction coexist.
In my work, I convey the intricate dynamics of inner conflicts and harmony of the soul, utilizing contrasting visual metaphors. Consequently, my art becomes not merely an act of creation, but rather an act of profound transformation and healing. By employing various materials, I create not just a visual but also a tactile experience for the viewer. The transition from the linear and painterly to the object reveals by surprise the world of the carpet to me—with its self-sufficient imprimatura, possessing a predetermined composition and color palette. By analyzing the pattern`s specific content, I destroy parts of the designs with paint or partially leave them untouched. I strive to convey the dynamic of my subjective experiences by breaking the silent background of the ornament with the means of painting, also enhancing it with natural materials: twigs, horns, leaves, hay, and ash. With a knife I cut through the carpet's fabric, making holes of various sizes. Each touch with the material becomes an act affirming life and its temporality. I pour liquid-colored pigments onto the carpet, spilling beyond its edges and staining the walls and floor - thereby expanding the painting into space. Under the influence of paint, fire, and water - the dense material is irreversibly deformed, transforming into a new living form. Similar to the translation of the genetic code into a structure that forms life.
As a result, large textured objects emerge that combine elements of painting, sculpture, and textiles. Addressing the vibrant piece "Red Ibis": a multitude of layers on the red carpet merge into numerous shades of fire-red and crimson, charged with feelings of joy, passion, pain, and anger... This canvas resembles a body without skin, embodying ultimate openness and sensitivity. The black carpet contrasts with the red. A floral pattern, sealed under a thin layer of paint, metaphorically and subtly sets a life scenario. The affective red explosion on the black background intertwines with the floral pattern of the carpet fabric, appearing as a foreign organic element, infused with intense purifying experience.
Two large landscapes, «Sápmi», and «Moose», evoke powerful beasts that symbolize harmony with northern nature and its cultural traditions. „Sápmi“, in the Sámi language means "Land of the Sámi people." By depicting the northern forest, I seek primal essence and archaic purity, immersed in utopian solitude and experiencing a sense of alienation from the modern urban reality.
Every work in its own way becomes a monument to the experienced journey, the pain and beauty of the process of recovery or intertwining.
The collision of contradictory heterogeneous elements creates a sense of struggle, reflecting the deep conflicting feelings we experience in life... In this internal contradiction, genuine reactive energy emerges, capable of giving a powerful impetus to a new beginning. In art, this is my main task — to give life to this energy, transforming it into a large, enriched form, where the very process of creating works becomes a space for creative confession.
